The work of Triin Rebane reflects both her background at Tartu Art College and the explorations of a young artist. Apparently a self-portrait, “Akt hõberebasega” (Nude with silver fox) strikes us as particularly meaningful in this context. The expensive fur represents the arrogant fashion photography aesthetic that holds an important place in the photography department at Tartu Art College. The professionalism of the realisation of the work and the use of 3 to produce a substantive effect suggest careful conceptual thinking.
But the cruel exhibitionism of the photograph – look me (the Fox) in the eye! – the simplicity of the model’s pose and the randomness of the background convey a forwardness and sincerity that only a young artist can afford.
